Jane Butcher, a member of the Barnabas Team and regional coordinator for Messy Church for the Midlands, led a Messy Fiesta on the 20th June. With her mention of the teenagers who came along, I wonder what mileage there is in running a day aimed at teenage leaders?
This Messy Fiesta was the second of its kind for Lichfield Diocese organised by their children's adviser, Mark Hatcher. Sixty-two people came along. Most of them were just beginning to explore whether Messy Church would work for them. A couple had just started a Messy Church. Two people who came last year have since started and were there to bring along some of their leaders to hear more. Four teenagers who were wanting to be involved also came along.
All were open to exploring new ideas, willing to think out of the box and were generally a really good group of people to be with. In October, I am back to do 'Messy Church - the next steps' - all about nurture and discipleship.
Lichfield is a good diocese - lots of positive things happening on the church and schools front.
