Fresh ideas for building a Christ-centred community

Canada newsletter

Happy December everyone!

As we busy ourselves with this season, let us always remember why, and for whom we do what we do… and take time to reflect, pray and worship.  Here is an advent blog from 24/7 prayer that you may want to consider as we approach Christmas.

National News

Happy November to everyone… almost Advent which means Christmas is coming soon!

There are lots of resources in this edition from the UK, Australia and of course Canada.  Would love for you all to send resources and ideas in to share!

Messy Nativity in Hamilton

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We got home from the Messy Church Roundtable in England on October 13th, so our Thanksgiving was last Thursday night at our Messy Church - what a great way to celebrate all that we can be thankful for!

New Messy Churches…

Runnymede United, Toronto ON

St Andrew's Presbyterian Owen Sound ON

All Saints Anglican, Huntsville ON

Knox Presbyterian, Bracebridge ON

St Andrew's Presbyterian, Orillia ON

Squamish United, Squamish BC

Hi Everyone,

Hard to think it is September… going on to October… with all the ’new starts’ this brings! For many, Messy Church is starting up after the summer holiday so our thoughts and prayers are with all the teams and participants involved!

Please let me know if you are running a Messy Church - or plan to start soon.  There are lots of resources and people to help! The latest Messy Church registration is a second Salvation Army Messy Church in Calgary! How great is that?

Workshops and Training Opportunities

Hi Everyone,

Andy and I had a wonderful time at the Anglican HTB Leadership Conference in London England held in the Royal Albert Hall - WOW what a venue! Great to be home with lots of thanks and job well done to our St. John’s Messy Church team for keeping up the ‘mess' in our absence.  We returned home to be part of our May Messy Church, with all the organizing already done - thanks gang!

Hi Everyone,

Since I will be away for a bit, this Newsletter is coming out earlier than usual.  The website for Wycliffe’s Refresh Conference is now up with lots of information and registration details. The conference is on Tuesday/Wednesday, May 13th and 14th at Wycliffe College in Toronto… and Andy and I are doing two Messy Church workshops on Wednesday the 14th so hopefully we may see some of you there! Check it out here!

Hi Everyone,

Wycliffe College is launching Wycliffe Serves at it’s Refresh Conference on May 13th and 14th with Messy Church one of the workshops.  Check out the conference here!

Here is a new link for craft ideas.

Happy 'almost' spring to everyone!

From my vantage point in the Niagara area of Ontario, it does look like my favourite groundhog (Wiarton Willie) was right about a late spring! Oh well - the white snow is still quite beautiful!

Upcoming events…

Hi Everyone! Hope you are all enjoying our very white (and cold) winter. On Sunday, Feb 2nd (Groundhog Day) Wiarton Willie (from Ontario) saw his shadow so looks like 6 more weeks of winter. There mixed reports about Shubenacadie Sam’s shadow (from Nova Scotia) as I see reports that both he did, and did not see his shadow… so hopefully one of our readers will set me straight!

Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful, but 'messy' Christmas! At our January Messy Church, our theme was 'Blind Bart' - the story about Bartimaeus' healing. We played a variety of blindfolded activities (leading a blind person, drawing a picture whilst blindfolded etc.) but one activity that everyone loved was making some crazy glasses to wear. We also learned about Braille (did you know that Louis braille was born in January 4, 1809?) and that our local library (Hamilton ON) has a wide variety of poplar kids picture books with braille text? Anyone wishing more information/where to get resources can pop me an email and I will sent it along.
