Meet the Trainers team

We’re experienced in both Messy Church as practitioners ourselves and in giving you an excellent experience of training. Whether it’s online training or face to face training, you can be confident you’ll be encouraged, challenged and equipped.

Meet the team below.

Jane Leadbetter

Having retired from working with Lucy Moore on the Messy Church BRF team, after ten years, I am delighted to offer support to Messy Churches whilst being a busy grandparent, coordinating L19 Messy Church in South Liverpool, scouting, promoting caring for our world and making ecobricks.

Becky May

Is a freelance writer and trainer with a heart for children, young people and families. She is part of the leadership team of Wixams Church, a Messy Church plant on a new housing development.

Dawn Savidge

My Messy Church journey began over 5 years ago. I have trained Messy Church leaders in lots of different aspects of MC in the North for the past few years. For my day job I am a Children, Families and Young People Advisor both locally for the Leeds Diocese and nationally for Jesus Shaped People. Feel free to contact me.

Kathy Bland

Kathy has been part of the Leominster Priory Messy Church team since 2010. She works part time for Hereford Diocese as Intergenerational Church Enabler and is a Licensed Lay Pioneer in Leominster where she also helps run the local food bank. Kathy is passionate about following Jesus to the margins and making sure faith and social action walk hand in hand.

Aike Kennett-Brown

Aike currently works for The Diocese of Southwark (Mission Support Officer Children and Young People). Part of her role is to champion, support and provide training for Messy Churches in that region, and to organise a biannual Messy Cathedral. Previously she started and ran a Messy Church for 7 years.

Cerys Hughes

I have been involved in Messy Church for around 12 years and currently work in Lichfield Diocese, enabling, supporting and encouraging Messy Church teams across North Shropshire. I am passionate about reaching the whole community through new and creative forms of church and so I also work part-time in a large urban parish in Telford where I get to try out my crazy ideas!

Dave Gregory

I am a Baptist Minister with a back ground in science and climate change. I try to combine faith and science in my work, and as Dr Dave coordinate Messy Church Does Science, using simple experiments to encounter the wonder of creation and the wonder of the creator.

David Bland

Based in Herefordshire, I've been part the leadership team of a Market Town Messy Church for 10 years. Working as an Intergenerational Missioner I've founded a new Messy Church on a Housing Estate. Committed to helping everyone take part and lead Messy Churches that fit the context God placed them in.

Martyn Payne

Hi there. I retired from the BRF Messy Church team at the of 2017 and since then have been involved in various voluntary roles locally and overseas; I have also worked as a freelancer for BRF. I have recently taken up role as a minister for a village church in Essex and hope to start a Messy Church there as soon as it is possible again.

Melissa Wearden

Hi! I'm Melissa, I'm the Children's and Families Minister at Holy Trinity, Hurdsfield Church in Macclesfield. I am passionate about Messy Church, not just because it is so imaginative and sometimes bonkers but because I get to meet lots of lovely people and tell them about Jesus. Claims to fame: presented a gift to Princess Margaret, preached at Chester Cathedral and met Wayne Rooney in the co op!
